Knowledge I.T, a leading provider of ICT, outsourcing and Data Centre Solutions, today announces that its Information Security Management System has been certified as compliant against the requirements of ISO/IEC 27001:2005, covering all of its locations and activities.
Knowledge is one of a small number of companies to have been awarded this certification to the international standard and is a major coup for the organisation. The standard requires a business to have appropriate security measures covering up to 134 control areas which safeguard information and intellectual property assets. Across all areas of business and commerce, there are only 350 companies in the UK and only 4,000 worldwide, certified against ISO 27001:2005.
ISO/IEC 27001 is the only auditable international standard which defines the requirements for an Information Security Management System (ISMS). The standard is designed to ensure the selection of adequate and proportionate security controls which protect information assets by implementing a structured, process driven approach to information security. It aims to reduce the business risks associated with information security and provides assurance to all stakeholders that the applicable security controls are in place to counter threats to the information. The security standard encompasses people, processes and I.T. systems.
The achievement of ISO 27001 demonstrates that Knowledge has met the highest possible standards in data management and security, giving customers the confidence that their data is being held according to strict protocols and policies.
The opening of the new North Tyneside Data and Business Recovery Centre by business communications specialist Knowledge I.T. marks the second stage completion of a £5m investment strategy by the company.
It is the second of three data and business recovery centres Knowledge I.T. is bringing on stream under an ambitious three-year growth plan. A facility on Wearside has been operating since 2004 and plans are being finalised to open a third at the company’s Washington head offices in summer 2011.
The 10,000sq ft facility enables companies to safely and securely store off-site copies of electronic documents, data and other important commercial information. Customers will be able to access and retrieve these easily should anything like a flood, fire, human error, terrorist attack or computer virus destroy the original electronic version, enabling them to get their business back up and running as soon as possible. Market research has shown that 43% of companies that suffer a major loss of computer records never reopen for business, while 51% close within two years and only 6% survive long-term.
The centre was officially opened by ONE NorthEast chairman Margaret Fay who commented that: “Knowledge is using cutting edge technology to provide businesses with invaluable disaster recovery services. It is great to be able to offer support to such a dynamic North-East business.”
